Women’s Empowerment | Ruth

Ruth, a 44-year-old mother of four in the Democratic Republic of Congo, rebuilt her tailoring business and began farming to support her family. Through Opportunity International’s financial literacy and agricultural training Ruth was introduced to new techniques such as crop diversification and the safe use of pesticides. Since then, she has seen clear improvements in her harvests. Her okra yields have increased from half a bucket to two full buckets, all of which she sells to support household expenses. With knowledge, experience and determination, Ruth is working toward a future where she no longer has to depend on anyone for her livelihood.
