In Ndodo, Malawi, farmers are using Ulangizi, an Opportunity International AI-powered app on WhatsApp, to get practical advice on crop and livestock problems, all in the local Chichewa language. Launched after Cyclone Freddy, the app helps farmers improve yields, save time and money, and build resilience, bringing advanced technology to remote communities reliant on small-scale agriculture.
We saw with Cyclone Freddy just how quickly one climate disaster can devastate an economy and a food system, and our farmer-support agents told us that Ulangizi could have helped them not only navigate the consequences of Freddy – but prepare for it.
