Bertha, a 45-year-old mother from Kumbani village in Malawi, joined an Opportunity International-supported savings group and was elected chairperson of 35 women who meet weekly to save and lend together. Through the group, she now saves regularly and has accessed loans to expand her rice and doughnut businesses. Her goal is for her family to live comfortably and for women in her community to achieve financial independence and confidence.
I would like women in general to be independent and in a position to provide for their children. We would appreciate it if Opportunity International would continue to provide opportunities to women who are eager to start and run their businesses.
